Because there is no shortage of people who count the days until Christmas
and because Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday
and because I don’t believe this esteemed holiday receives enough exposure
and because I don’t know anybody else who counts down the days until Thanksgiving…
I’ve taken the countdown upon myself! 🙂
(In case you are wondering, Thanksgiving is 30 days from the moment I’m posting.)
Contemplating the neglect of Thanksgiving has brought another day to my mind that I don’t believe I anticipate enough—the return of Jesus. Some days, I go the entire day without even thinking of it once! And yet, it is the day of glorious anticipation for those of us who know the Lord.
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.—1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
It’s better than Christmas.
Better even than Thanksgiving!
Perhaps you’d join me in a self-challenge to keep your heart fixed on the eternal and your mind focused on Christ’s return. He come could any day. Maybe today. Maybe even on Thanksgiving.
(P.S. Be watching for an overflow of the Thanksgiving countdown here on steppinginthelight.com. I have a few ideas related to this countdown, but I’m purging and refining them for the really good one!! :))
