In the Truest Sense of the Word

My mom wasn’t much for me using the word awesome. It wasn’t forbidden, you know, like stupid, but it was reserved. She said awesome should only be for that which was truly magnificent.

For instance, the pile of leaves in the yard was not awesome.

A surprise cup of warm apple cider was not awesome.

Thanksgiving itself wasn’t even quite awesome.

She told me that using words like awesome in everyday conversation degraded the word from its true meaning, making it unavailable to describe the truly awesome.

But all day today, I’ve been thinking about awesome.ย It all started this morning when I sorted through my mind for an attribute of God that begins with the letter A.ย

Yes, He is awesome. In the truest sense of the word.
